How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Happy almost weekend! Fun fact every weekend in July has been booked solid for the cowboy and I, actually every weekend in June and July have been booked basically solid. This weekend we are off to celebrate a wedding in our family, and I can’t help but brag my sweet hubs is the best man, because he is the best man 😉

One of the reasons are weeks and weekends are always booked up is because I have a crazy work schedule. But one of my jobs heavily revolves around makeup and I’ve picked up some really fun and interesting facts… like you’re suppose to clean your foundation brush every other day. Even better if you clean it every single day! Why? Because this insures the application of your foundation for a flawless face!

Now makeup companies often sell their own brand name makeup brush cleaner but if you’re cleaning your brushes faithfully you can run through that brand name cleaner pretty fast. This is a trick we use at work and it leaves our brushes incredibly soft and feeling like brand new. Bellow you will find the easiest most cost efficient way to clean your makeup brushes! If you follow me on snapchat (@thecowboyandi) you would’ve seen the video version of this but here’s my step by step process.

Items Needed

Dishwashing Soap

Rubbing Alcohol (90% or higher)

Two Cups

All Your Nasty Makeup Brushes You’ve Possibly Never Washed

Let’s get started!

1) Squeeze a dime size amount of dishwashing soap into your cup, fill with warm water.

2) Add brushes, let sit for 5 minuets. Swirl your brushes around to loosen up the months/years worth of makeup stuck inside them.

3) After 5 minuets rinse brushes and cups out with warm water. Once the brushes are running clear under the warm water move to step 4.

4) Pour rubbing alcohol into the cups fill it about a quarter of the way. Fill the rest of the cup with warm water. Drop your brushes back into the alcohol mixture and swirl for 5 more minuets.

5) Rinse brushes and cups. Let dry over night!

And that’s it, it’s one of the easiest makeup hacks out there. And I promise your brushes will feel softer than ever before!

What are some of your favorite makeup hacks?

Farmhouse Decore | Spice Rack

Spring is about to burst I can feel it! And I can see it. Flowers are popping up here and there all around our homestead. The other day I cut some of these beautiful blooms to brighten up the inside of our home. They pretty pop of pink brings a smile to my face every time I see them. But besides these adorable blooms I wanted to share with you my latest flee market find. I find the old saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” to be so true. Especially when it comes to flea market shopping! I picked up this adorable spice rack the other week for a steal, it even came with the cute jars! I loved the distressed look and uniqueness of this piece. Not only is it functional it can also be used simply to display flowers to brighten up your cooking space. The possibilities are endless. That’s my favorite part about shopping through antique stores, garage sales, and flea markets. With a little inspiration you could create something beautiful.

Christmas Movie Jar

Ti’s the season for Christmas movies and hot chocolate! There are so many great Christmas movies to watch and we only get one true season to watch them. It’s always a challenge to select which movie to watch on which nights, and somehow we always end up forgetting one. At least this is how it is for the cowboy and I. Determined not to miss out on any of our favorite Christmas movies this year I came up with this fun and easy idea. First the cowboy and I decided what movie we wanted to watch this Christmas, then we wrote each one out on a slip of paper. We folded each movie and placed it in a jar, each night we draw a movie out and watch it together! It’s so fun and easy, plus there’s no arguing over what movie to watch. This fun idea ensures we each get to see the Christmas movies we love and it adds excitement not knowing which movie will be picked. Bellow you will find the list of movies we selected!

And don’t think you have to use our exact movie list, add your own twist to it. I also added some Christmas ribbon to our little jar because it needed to look more cheerful in my opinion.

DIY Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

Hair Treatment

I don’t know about you guys but living out on the homestead we have really hard water. I noticed it as soon as we got married, my blonde curls were more brassy, and my hair had terrible split ends. At first I thought it was simply the cheap shampoo I had bought once my good stuff ran out, so on a trip back home I purchased some more of the good stuff. Even this has not seemed to help. I reached out to other women in my Cowboy’s family and they informed me that I most likely had harsh water, causing my hair to wig out. I thought well maybe my shampoo and conditioner will brighten my locks up to their normal perky color, but even after extended use it did not solve my problem.

Coconut Oil Hair1

I love coconut oil, I have a huge tub of it, and I remembered reading about treatments for your hair using coconut oil. In my mind if it’s healthy why not give it a try. I’ve been doing this hair treatment once a week for a while now and I can see, and feel the difference! Not only has it helped strip the brassy color out of my blonde hair, it also has soften my curls once again! Needless to say I’m hooked, and it’s so easy!

What You Need

  1. Coconut oil
  2. Essential oils (optional)

How To

Divide your hair into two sections, a bottom section and a top section, you may need more sections depending on how thick your hair is. Heat up in a small cup your coconut oil, once heated up you have the option to add essential oils into the coconut oil. I use peppermint essential oils to help circulate the blood flow on my scalp to quicken my hair growth, plus is smells amazing! Once your mixture is ready dip your hand/fingers into your coconut oil mix and start working it through your first layer, starting at the bottom and working your way up. Once you’ve completely soaked your first section repeate the same process with your other sections. After you’ve completely saturated your hair in coconut oil flip your hair upside down and gather it into a tight bun on the top of your head. If you have any left over coconut oil I like to pour it on top of my bun and squeeze it in.

And now we wait, I often do my hair treatment in the morning and then take a shower that evening, leaving my hair to soak for hours. I would recommend leaving your hair in the treatment for at least one two hours.

When you go to wash out the treatment I would recommend only using shampoo your first wash, conditioner will only add more oil to your hair. It takes about two washes for the coconut oil to completely wash out. For the next day I would recommend curls or messy buns to hide the left over oily spots.

Let me know what you think! I would love to know what essential oils you use to help your hair grow, comment bellow your thoughts and if you liked the hair treatment!
